Pattern recognition is a foundational skill for active traders. This flashcard game shows you classic candlestick patterns and asks you to name them before the timer runs out. Speed matters, but accuracy matters more.

Round 1 of 10

What pattern is this?

How it works

  1. You see a single candlestick or a 3-4 candle pattern.
  2. Choose the correct pattern name from four options.
  3. You have 12 seconds per pattern. Let the clock run out and the round is scored as wrong.
  4. After 10 rounds, get your score and a study list of the patterns you missed.

Why this matters

Candlestick patterns are not magic signals, but they are visual shorthand for market psychology:

  • Doji, hammer, and shooting star hint at turning points or indecision.
  • Engulfing and star patterns flag potential reversals after a move.
  • Marubozu and flags suggest continuation when the trend is strong.

Tips

  • Look at the body size, wick length, and where the pattern appears in the trend.
  • Don’t memorize names in isolation — context is what makes a pattern meaningful.
  • A score above 7/10 consistently means the pattern names are becoming automatic.
